The Gargon-Village-Schools offers education to the children of Tibetan Nomads for the first time. With the help of donations from disciples in the West, H.E. Garchen Rinpoche built two elemantary schools in the Gar Valley near the Gar Monastery in Kham, Tibet. Currently about 200 children attend classes. During the eight month of school year, the children have room and board, school books and healthcare. |

About 60 nuns live at the Gar Nunnery, in Kham. The nuns, who are not in retreat, take part in the daily activities of the nunnery, which are similar to the ones in a monastery for monks. In the past, the families of the nuns were responsible for their food, and in many cases this was accomplished with great difficulty. For four years now, His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche has been paying for their food. For this purpose sponsors are sought. |

When H.E. Garchen Rinpoche was released from prison in 1979, after 20 years of imprisonment, there was not a bit of the historical Gar-Monastery left. Inspired by Rinpoche, with their humble resources, the locals started to rebuild the Upper- and Lower-Monastery. As you can imagine the construction material consists of stones, clay and chopped wood. |
